About Us

This site is an independent information guide for South African students who are applying to NSFAS, waiting on a funding decision, or trying to understand a status on myNSFAS. It is written in plain English, step by step, so that a student can check a status, understand what it means, and know what to do next without wading through jargon.

What This Guide Covers

The guide covers the full journey around an NSFAS application: checking a status, using a myNSFAS account safely, uploading documents, signing the consent form, understanding a rejection, lodging an appeal, and following allowances through the NSFAS Wallet and accommodation funding. It also covers the situations students ask about most, including TVET college funding, postgraduate funding, international students, SASSA households, late applications, the N+2 rule, portal problems, and quick WhatsApp and USSD status checks.

Start with these guides if you are unsure where to begin: what each NSFAS status means, how to log in to myNSFAS safely, and how to appeal a rejected application. The homepage also offers eight free guidance tools, including a status-check walkthrough, a document checklist, an appeal helper, an allowance planner that uses only figures you type in, a stage tracker, login help, a contact-method guide, and a readiness checker. The tools explain what to do; they do not look up any real application.

Who This Guide Is For

This guide is for students at public universities and TVET colleges, and for parents, guardians and campus support staff helping a student through the process. It is useful whether you are applying for the first time, waiting on verification, or sorting out a payment problem with your institution. If you are an international student, start with the international-students guide, because NSFAS was designed for South African students and most international students do not qualify.

How The Content Is Made

Articles are written from the NSFAS Status Check guide supplied for this site and from general official guidance published by NSFAS and institutions. Where a figure, date, deadline, threshold or allowance amount could not be verified from an official source, it is left out rather than guessed. That is why this site deliberately gives no allowance amounts or income thresholds: those figures change by year and institution type, and a wrong number would mislead a student making a real decision.

What This Guide Is Not

This site is not NSFAS, not the Department of Higher Education and Training, not a university, and not a TVET college. It cannot show your personal funding status, open your myNSFAS account, change a decision, or speed up a payment. Your personal status lives only in your own myNSFAS account, and your institution's financial aid office is the right place for questions about your own record. If anything on this site disagrees with your myNSFAS account or your financial aid office, trust your account and your institution.

This guide is free to read. There is no account, no sign-up, and no payment anywhere on this site.
